Barcelona is surrounded by hills. The El Coll neighborhood, which is part of the Gràcia district, is located 300 meters above sea level. There, one can find, like in the rest of the area, escalators which make life easier for the residents.
This is a picture I took a few years back in the Sarrià neighborhood. On some quiet streets of Barcelona, people who live on the ground floor actually grow plants and flowers in pots they keep just outside their door.
