Halloween, with its ghosts and pumpkins, is celebrated in the US on All Saint’s Eve. In Mexico, Día de Muertos is one of the most popular holidays, full of skulls and skeletons of all colors and sizes. On that day in Catalonia we celebrate the Castanyada. It used to be a religious tradition to honor the dead, but today we just gather with family and friends to eat chestnuts (castanyes), sweet potatoes and panellets, which are delicious petit-fours. All around the city, street vendors sell roasted chestnuts wrapped in newspaper cones.
